Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — A popular Johnstown business is preparing to reopen, four months after heavy smoke and flames damaged the building's basement.
The owner of Baker's Loaf is calling Monday her “Christmas morning," saying it has been a stressful past few months, but she is thrilled to be opening up her business again.
August's electrical fire left owner Maigin Boring no choice but to temporarily close the business she has owned since 2015.
"We'll be back. We're closed for now, not forever."
Now, four months later, Boring is excited to finally be able to serve her customers again.
“These are tears for a different reason. The last interview I did, I was balling because I couldn’t be open. Now I'm crying because were opening Monday. I cannot wait to see the people. I have missed those people so much.”
Boring says the past few months leading up to the reopening of have been stressful.
"Just trying to figure out everything that had to go into this and just the steps we had to take to get the building back in order.”
Boring says everything inside Baker's Loaf is brand new: from the wiring, to the smoke detectors, to the coolers.
“First the clean out and then construction. And the hardest part was waiting to get stuff in and waiting to see when stuff would arrive. Everything just fell together. It did come together; it just took a while.”
And although it sounds like everything is ready to go for Monday, Boring says there is still a weekend full of prep work to do.
“This whole weekend, we are going to be baking. Our popcorn order, we are actually waiting to come in. So, all weekend we will be popping, so we have everything fresh popped when the doors open Monday morning. Boars Head brought our meat order, we have our holiday hams, so people can start ordering them Monday morning too.”
Baker's Loaf will be open again this Monday, December 5th, at 6 a.m.
