School district identifies teen killed after fall near YMCA camp

FORT HILL, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities have released new information regarding a teen's death after a fall near a YMCA camp in Somerset County. According to Somerset officials, a 15-year-old boy fell from rocks near the Cove Rocks on state forest property of Mount Davis Road. The incident happened near the Deer Valley YMCA Family Camp just before 12:30 p.m. Monday. The Norwin School District identified the teen as rising sophomore Nathan Kanczes. [Read More]

Seven Points Campground now open for the season

HUNTINGDON CO., Pa. (WJAC) — Seven Points Campground at Raystown Lake in Huntingdon County is open for the season. The lake's camping season runs from the first weekend of April until the last full weekend of October. According to park rangers, the camp offers 260 sites. Visitors are reminded all public safety protocols remain in place and must be followed, including wearing a mask when entering any lake property. Steelers signing free-agent safety DeShon Elliott to 2-year deal

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — According to multiple reports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly signing former Ravens and Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott to a 2-year deal. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz says the deal is reportedly worth $6 million. Elliott was drafted by the Ravens in 2018 and spent three seasons on Baltimore's active roster. He also played one season each with the Detroit Lions and the Miami Dolphins. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — With the intention of being more inclusive, Penn State University is looking to drop "male-specific" words like “freshman,” “sophomore” and “upperclassmen.” Officials say the Penn State Faculty Senate approved proposition AD84 during their final meeting of the 2020-21 academic year. They said the approved legislation would implement the use of gender neutral and non-binary terminology in course and program descriptions. Punxsutawney man charged with rape and supplying alcohol to a minor in Clearfield County

Authorities say a Punxsutawney man has been charged after he allegedly raped a girl in Clearfield County early last month. According to a probable-cause affidavit, 22-year-old Hunter Vroman, of Park Avenue, reportedly supplied alcohol to a 15-year-old girl on June 1 at a residence along South 3rd Street in Clearfield Borough. Vroman is accused of then sexually assaulting the girl. After the incident, according to the affidavit, bruises were seen on the girl’s body. [Read More]

'A unique environment:' Small College WS returns to DuBois; organizers discuss impact
