Annual Jackson Heritage Festival not happening this year, official says

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — The future of what’s become a Jackson Township summer staple looks to be uncertain. According to Township Manager David Hirko, the Jackson Heritage Festival will not be happening this year. Hirko says he’s close to retiring, so this year he stepped down from being the event’s lead organizer, and no one stepped up to take over the planning process. Bedford County Historical Society hosts traveling WWII exhibit

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) -- The Heinz History Center's traveling World War II exhibit is on display inside the Bedford County Historical Society, the furthest east the exhibit will go. “We’ve had quite a few from the Heinz History Center,” said Gillian Leach, the historical society’s executive director. “Right now, they are offering their World War II, 'We Can Do It' exhibit. It’s our turn to have it.” The exhibit highlights the important role Western Pennsylvania played in industrial efforts during the war and the heroics of men like Johnstown native Michael Strank, who helped raise the flag on Iwo Jima. DuBois couple charged for multiple armed robberies in Blair Co. with infant in car, police say

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say a DuBois couple is behind bars following a pair of armed robberies in Blair County earlier this week. Police say Amber Herren and Joseph Mazza are accused of robbing the Unique Tobacco Store, located along Valley View Blvd. in Altoona, early Monday morning. Man who pleaded guilty to fatally striking PSU jogger is no longer in the US

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Federal authorities say the man who pleaded guilty to fatally striking a fellow Penn State student with his car is no longer in the United States after being granted what is termed "voluntary departure." Ahmed Alqubaisi was charged last September after police say he reportedly lost control of his vehicle and struck 25-year-old Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre, who was jogging along Park Avenue, near Penn State’s campus. Woman in custody after stabbing man at Minersville club

(WJAC) — Those who travel out of state to hunt deer, elk, mule deer or moose are being reminded they may not be able to bring the animal back without first removing carcass parts that are at high risk for chronic wasting disease.
