98-year-old Marine veteran in hospice care finally receives his high school diploma

POOLESVILLE, Md. (WJLA) — A nearly 100-year-old Marine veteran in hospice Friday was hand-delivered the high school diploma he never received. 98-year-old Richard Remp was unable to get his diploma back in the 1940s because he dropped out at age 17 to serve in World War II, then Korea, and then Vietnam. But he savored the remarkable moment Friday. Remp, who goes by "Gunny" since he was a decorated gunnery sergeant in Vietnam, has been in hospice care at home since doctors discovered stage four cancer throughout his body after he fell a few weeks ago. One person injured, dog killed in late night fire in East Conemaugh, officials say

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — One person was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Sunday night following a house fire in Cambria County. The fire was reported on the 200 block of Third Street in East Conemaugh Borough shortly after 11 p.m. Ron Reynolds, the deputy fire chief, says the house was fully ingulfed in flames. Taxi driver robbed at gunpoint in Johnstown; robbers still at large

Blair County Hair Salon Reopens Despite Governor Wolf's Orders

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa — One local hair salon in Blair County is going against Governor Wolf's order to remain closed. Tame Your Mane, located in East Freedom, first reopened on May 1st. Owner Julie Potter says she had no choice but to save her salon. "Since Friday, we've done nothing but put smiles on peoples faces," says Potter. Equitrans Midstream says Cambria County gas leak has cost them $8M, more expenses to come

CANONSBURG, Pa. (WJAC/AP) — In an earnings call Tuesday, Equitrans Midstream leaders said the costs of handling a gas leak at their Rager Mountain facility in Cambria County last year that spewed large amounts of methane into the air cost them $8.1 million last year in expenses and money reserved for potential regulatory penalties. And they expect that amount to be higher in 2023. “Based on initial estimates we have included $8-10 million of operating expenses and approximately $5 million of (capital expenses) related to the ongoing work following the Rager Mountain incident in our 2023 guidance,” said Kirk Oliver, Senior VP/CFO for Equitrans Midstream.
